Our story

It all started with our special needs dog and a trip abroad.

Staycation Club for Dogs was born out of our love for our senior dog, Maddie. Before a long trip to Northern Spain, we struggled to find a place that truly understood her needs.

Once full of energy, she’d become rear paralyzed with Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and needed constant comfort and care.

We know from experience that not every dog thrives in a high-energy boarding environment. For dogs with special needs, or those who prefer the comforts of home and the company of humans, we wanted to provide a better option.

Staycation Club for Dogs brings together our immense love for dogs, home and travel. We’re here to give your dog the most love ever and be the people we needed when we were on vacation!

Our family

Marissa Huffman

I’m Marissa, the person your dog will spend their days with. Every dog who stays with us becomes part of our family, and caring for them is woven into my everyday life. I’m here full-time, sharing our calm, cozy home, paying attention to the little moments, and making sure each pup feels safe, loved, and truly at ease. I offer the kind of presence and care I’d want for my own dogs.

Owner

Michael supports the business behind the scenes, lending an extra set of hands whenever he’s home. While his primary role is serving the community as a Captain with SDFD, he’s a trusted part of our team and a familiar face to many returning guests. His extensive paramedic training adds a calm, confident presence and an extra layer of care, safety and security to our home.

Molly and Maddie 🌈

Molly and Maddie set the foundation for what this business is today. Instant companions from the day we rescued them to the day Molly crossed the rainbow bridge, they shared an unbreakable bond. We love that when dogs stay here together they truly become besties like Molly and Maddie were. Dogs are undoubtedly the most wonderful beings in existence and we have dedicated our lives to caring for them. It’s our greatest honor to care for yours.

Forever Part of our Pack

Bluey and Birdie came to us for temporary stays—both rescues from Passion for Pitties—but it didn’t take long for them to become part of our forever family. Bluey instantly bonded with Maddie in her final months, forming a connection we hadn’t seen with any other guest. Later, Birdie arrived needing a calm place to heal after giving birth. Within days, she settled beside Bluey as if she’d always been here, and her timing felt divine. Birdie and Bluey complete our family.
